Ghana’s Street Children Will Have Their Day In Court

Last year I wrote about street children in Ghana. When a Ghanian father voiced his fears and frustrations about one day seeing a child get killed by a car. All over Accra there are children begging for scraps of food, money or selling items on the streets instead of being in school.

Traffic in the capital city is extremely heavy, many have sat for hours in traffic, you can’t help but notice the large amounts of children. From previous research at one time it was about 60,000 children living on the streets of Ghana. According to MyJoyOnline.com that number grew to 90,000 in 2019.

Many Ghanians would blame the influx of children on those coming from surrounding West African countries, no matter where they’re coming from they require attention. Something must be done to protect them from the cars, the elements of the extreme heat & sun. They need to be provided with food, education and places to sleep as well.

Once while riding in a vehicle I noticed a child was reaching for the driver whom is a father of 3 young children…
