Our coworking space is home to many different businesses and freelancers and we love getting the opportunity to share their stories with the community. One of our newest members, Leah Williams, recently arrived from New York City. A couple of things brought her to Chattanooga, including family and the opportunity to establish a Southern client base.

Leah is the founder and director of a company called SwellSlide, where she designs slide decks and presentations for a wide range of clients from startups to established corporations. Her client roster includes Bloomberg, The Weather Channel, NASA, Ann Taylor/LOFT, Gap and the Discovery Channel, among others. Her services range from presentation classes, consulting, design, and writing.

When asked how establishing a base in Chattanooga has been for business, Leah had only good things to share. Society of Work has made it easy her to meet new people and get involved with the startup community. Chattanooga allows her to meet and bump into like-minded people in different places.

“I went to Creative Mornings the other day and ran into someone I sat next to at The Camp House. That would have never happened in NYC!”

When it comes to meeting new people, Leah says Chattanoogans are extra friendly and welcoming.

Society of Work has especially been helpful in Leah’s transition from fast-paced NYC to our Southern mid-sized city. She told us that SOW serves as her hub of creativity and startups, always keeping her and other members in the know about upcoming happenings. She says,

“If you want to go to the coolest events — they advertise it. If you want help growing your business — they host learning happy hours where they bring in experts in their field to offer free advice (like lawyers who specialize in start-ups and freelancers). If you want to feel connected to a community — it happens almost immediately.”

This week, Leah gave a presentation at Chadev’s weekly meetup. She shared her expert advice for presentation designs and answered several questions from the community about how to best present a slide deck. Check it out:
