Smart Homes Need a Smart Base, and That Starts With The Walls
Today we are installing more and more smart technology into our homes such as smart vents, smart thermostats and other smart technology. Though one problem with that is we connect all this through small tablets on the wall or the smart technologies in our pockets. Though there is a limit to these devices where they are limited in size so people with bad eyesight or can easily be dropped and broken. Smart walls could be the new hubs for smart technology by being a wall in a room that can have a screen in it that allows you to operate all the tech in the home.
A current technology which is like a smart wall is the is something called the Wall++ by Disney which uses electromagnetic sensors to find where you are. This can be used to set up gestures to control different devices in the room or to control light levels depending on how many people are in the room. These will take awhile to grow however as this technology develops it will allow for better control.
A current example of what this technology could do would be is an LED screen in the wall. We will see that the tablets we currently use to control our smart devices will take up a large panel in the wall. We will likely be able to use it as a tv rather than just a remote or change light levels in the whole room rather than just in one room. This can be used by parents to wake up their children or to notify children about something. This will definitely help with managing of houses and you will likely be able to program stuff to save electricity by turning off stuff if no one is in the room. Finally there could be special games programmed into the wall to help get people active and interact with others.
While this technology is a few years out we will be seeing it soon enough that it will affect our lives. We will probably start with the Disney Wall++ and see what develops from there, however whatever comes will likely help peoples everyday lives and will develop into further smart technologies and smart objects.
