Although it may look like some futuristic suit of leisure, the ZOZOSUIT is here to revolutionize how you shop for clothes. Think of it as a motion capture suit meets The Gap. The skin tight spandex suit consists of over 350 scattered unique white dots. The dots act as a fixed marker that makes the 3D body scanning possible.

Step one, squeeze your body into the suit. Step 2, use the ZOZO app to ‘scan’ and measure your body. You’ll rest your phone on the table, propped up on the provided stand. Then, you will listen to the voice commands from the app that instruct you to rotate 12 times (think the hands of a clock) as it takes a photo of you. This is when the magic happens. The app will use their “proprietary algorithm” to measure the dots and create a 3D rendering of your body.

Now that your body has been “perfectly” measured, the real fun happens, shopping! The ZOZO site has several articles of clothing for men and women that are custom made based on the measurements from the app. No more ordering sizes. Just pick out what you want and your measurements will be uploaded to the site. The claim is clothing perfectly tailored to fit your body.

Although it sounds pretty rad to no longer have to deal with ill-fitting clothes, there are definitely still some kinks being worked out. After watching several YouTubers test the suit out, many had difficulty getting the app to successfully measure their body, having to do the process over and over.

Different body shapes and sizes proved to be somewhat of a challenge for some. If your body is a bit more robust and the suit compresses your body, your measurements will be off as the suit has squeezed you in a couple of inches, resulting in tighter custom made clothes. And if your limbs tend to have generous stretch, the smaller dots on the suit that mark your ankles and wrists seems to shift resulting in custom sleeves with exposed wrists and the infamous high-water pants.

As with many things custom, you get to eagerly wait longer for your items to be made. The ZOZO site promises a six week turn-around time to get your clothes delivered to you. Once the clothes finally arrives, it seemed the reviews were mixed. Some people loved the fit, whereas others still had the same issues as conventional online shopping.

In the end, even though it may not be quite what ZOZO set out to accomplish, I do think they are on to something. I love the idea of being able to easily take your body measurements. It would be amazing to get other clothing brands on board, not necessarily for custom made clothes, but just to see where your sizing falls on each online stores’ chart. There is nothing more irritating than having a different size at every store.

With ordering clothing from ZOZO, I could see how eliminating clothing sizes all together could be beneficial for those that get wrapped up in sizing. No longer would someone need to dwell on the fact that they went from a size 10 to 12. Just pick out what you like and let the app do the rest of the work. No time for self-hate here!

Lastly, this suit seems like it could be amazing for anyone tracking their body for fitness goals. No worrying about measuring, just slap the suit on and let the app track everything. Or if you are just a bit nerdy like me and love being able to track all your personal stats and see how they change, the ZOZOSUIT just may be for you.
