This is an email from Socrates Café on Medium, a newsletter by Socrates Café.
Welcome to our first newsletter!
Read on for news, important updates, and links to some of our favorite recent articles!
Socrates Café on Medium (SCM) has grown marvelously during the last year and we’re really excited to see all the incredible talent displayed by our writers, and all the insightful comments made by readers. As an organization affiliated with the Socrates Cafe non-profit organization, our goal is to foment dialogue and interconnection in society… this last year, despite all that’s been occurring (or perhaps because of it) we feel like that mission is thriving.
This is a big one if you submit work to us frequently, so please read on!
Submission acceptances will now be sent out only once per week on Wednesdays. If you submit a piece to Socrates Café on Medium (SCM) before Wednesday of the current week and do not hear back from us, please leave a private note on the shared draft of your article as a reminder. Writers who frequently submit work to us and then withdraw it (before we’ve had at least seven (7) days to review it), may be removed from the publication.
We’ve also updated the language of our submission guidelines. So please read that by clicking here.
One of the things we’ve noticed is that a lot of people who submit have very strong feelings about the topics they’re writing on. That’s awesome, but we want to caution that we shy away from vitriolic work of any sort, with the vast majority of our rejections (the ones that don’t stem from quality issues) arising due to the phrasing, tone, and nature of the work submitted. We long for more earnest connection from people of eclectic backgrounds, but find compassionate ways to make your points clear.
This is a small excerpt of the work submitted recently that we absolutely loved and think you will, too.
As always, feel free to submit more work, and if you like seeing the work that SCM does in the world please follow us on Twitter at @SocratesCafePub
