Researchers in iHuman and Critical Psychology and Education, School of Education at the University of Sheffield hosted an event which brought together practitioners, leaders and researchers from across social, health, education, city councils and local authorities as well as university researchers.

A number of key themes emerged including:
* The need to contextualise the lives of young people, and their mental health, in wider framings of community.
* An urgent requirement to understand and challenge the stifling impact of austerity and cuts on the services offered to young people.
* A requirement to think about how we speak of, speak with, write about, listen to children and young people (Billington, 2006).

Professor Dan Goodley, is director of research in The School of Education and co-director of iHuman.
