Ethereum DApps - The Apps that get Installed in the Wires. No Kidding!
Do you have a Laptop or a Desktop? Of course, you do. And you would also have an internet connection. Have you ever installed a game or any other software on your computer?
You might have encountered a situation in which the software or the game wouldn’t be working properly, and that is due to less memory or less fire power (from fire power I mean those intel core i5’s and stuff like that).
Don’t you think it would have been nice that instead of buying this fire power or memory you could have borrowed it from someone else?
You can buy space online, with the cloud thing (Google Drive, One Drive). But computational power…not so sure.
Now, imagine you want to play a game or use a software which is installed on somebody else’s computer!
What if the software and games could be installed in the internet wires! Then anybody with the right credentials would access and use these.

But Smartphones are not connected to those wires!
Now compare the same scenario with a mobile phone. They use themobile network to access the internet, which is not physical (not like the internet wires which you can touch and feel). So then, in this case, the ‘mobile network’ would replace the physical wires, and you would want your apps and games to get installed on this ‘network.’ So, you may not require a mobile phone with the good fire power (again, we are talking about that snapdragon octa-core processor stuff) to run an app or a game.
Yes, I know this blog is related to DApps, and I would start talking about it right about now since we are done with all the things we need to imagine before understanding about DApps.
The Ethereum Blockchain is creating an ecosystem, a network of computers, in which the apps are installed not on individual computers but on the network itself (Yes, the wires!). Anybody can use these apps from anywhere if he/she is a part of the ecosystem by paying for it. (Not in dollars, but in the internal Ethereum Blockchain based Cryptocurrency called ‘Ether’). But how the hell this network gets fire power to run these Ethereum DApps!
All the computers in the network contribute to the fire power of the network. Same goes with memory (storage space).
Let’s assume that there are four computers in the network.
Computer A has 6 GHz of firepower and 2 GB memory
Computer B has 8 GHz of firepower and 4 GB memory
Computer C has 10 GHz of firepower and 10 GB memory
Computer D has 14 GHz of firepower and 10 GB memory
So, the network will have
6 + 8 + 10 + 14 = 38 GHz of firepower, and
2 + 4 + 10 + 10 = 26 GBof memory
It’s like the whole Ethereum Blockchain network behaves like a big virtual computer that runs DApps.
Ethereum has a development platform called Ethereum Virtual Machine, which can be utilized by the coders to develop ‘DApps’ (Decentralized Apps).
Why are they called ‘Decentralized Apps’?
I think you have a fair idea about this by now. Instead of running and being executed on a single computer, they run on the whole Ethereum Blockchain Network. All the computers in the Ethereum Blockchain share their space and computing power (fire power) with the network, and these ‘DApps’ run on the shared space and computing power of the whole network.
