Career choice is one of the most important decisions in our life because we spend 80% of our life on working.

In the book about decision making, Jim Stewart mentions five career anchors that have effect on career choices.

Managerial — Career choice that relates to the want of managing others. Example: manager, supervisor, …

Technical — Contrast to Managerial, primary concern with become a specialist of functional skill. Example: doctor, writer, …

Security/stability — The need of steadiness in job position with a balance, uncompetitive work environment. The people have this anchor will more likely to be reliable employees.

Autonomy/independence — Has less ambitions about rising to the top but has more need of control over work activity. Example: secretary, journalist,…

Creativity/entrepreneurial — The most aspiring anchors that can produce a product, service or indeed an organization. Of course the people have this anchor will most likely become the leaders of companies, goverment, …

As for myself, I have the autonomy and managerial anchors therefore my major is Business Management with concentrations of Makerting and Human Resource Management. With this two concentrations, I hope I can find a job which I can be independent but still have connection with people around me.
