My first batch of CBD balm was concocted in my friends kitchen and poured into old AOL tins. I used it for self care purposes and not on clients. At first use, I noted the warmth that seeped up my hands and arms. It was interesting that I had no clue that my hands and arms ached until I rubbed my balm on them and suddenly it was gone.

My interest for liniments, salves and balms came from my travels to Thailand. If you walk the markets of Chiang Mai, you will find multiple markets full of herbs, flowers, oils and traditional medicine. Among the hustle of the day and night markets are Thailand’s most famous contribution to massage therapy and the kick boxing world of Muay Thai, known as Thai Style Tiger Balm.

Rows of various types of Thai Balms are endless. All have their own herb combination and unique ingredients that effect the strength. Most contain some kind of petroleum base. I wanted to know more, so I decided to take a class in Thailand.

Pearl was a women who owned a shop in the Santithem neighborhood I lived in. Santithem was a local market place concentrated with Thai food, Lanna style Massage schools and the best of people. Pearl was one of them and she taught me about the famous Thai Style Tiger Balm that could be mixed to mend bones.

While Pearl taught me the recipe, I wanted to know HOW it worked. What made these ingredients so effective? So I looked further into the chemical properties and the bio chemical effects of the ingredients. I found it acted as a topical analgesic that interrupted superficial pain receptors in the skin; temporarily taking away the sting of a bruise or a muscle strain. The Balm helped heal soft tissue through stimulating blood circulation.

I could finally look back to my first experience in using Thai Style Tiger Balm and understand. I was first exposed to the use of it when I practiced Muay Thai. My teacher used and smelled of it often. So I began using it and applying it to the Muay Thai fighters who would see me for massage treatment.

Fast forward to the present, I formulated a Thai Style Therapeutic Balm infused with CBD which I use in my Medical Massage Practice.

Though I have always had more of a Medical Massage based practice, recently my practice has become largely dedicated to rehabilitation and Orthopedic Massage. The use of Thai CBD Balm has become an important part of my massage sessions. Not only have I seen my clients improve their quality of life but it also assists me in remaining healthy in my own practice, with Thai CBD Therapeutic Balm, muscles release with little effort.

Through the many years of defining and redefining my practice, one thread of truth has always remained the same, work smarter not harder. I find that statement to be doubly so for a Massage Therapist with a long career. Lasting beyond the 10 year expiration date in the Massage Industry takes careful consideration and the ability to adapt. I use many tools which include technique, modalities and now includes Thai CBD Therapeutic Balm.

Benefits of CBD + Thai Balm

I have found CBD makes Medical Massage less uncomfortable, especially for clients recovering from surgery or managing chronic pain. Part of my treatment protocol is to apply the Thai CBD Balm as a topical treatment to prepare the muscles for the massage sessions. Clients always leave deep tissue massage sessions without soreness and having long lasting pain relief.

.

CBD known as Cannabidiol acts on Cannabinoid receptors in the body, as well as other independent pain receptor pathways.

Topical treatment, such as CBD lotion or balm is ideal for those working in the medical or health care field wanting to give their clients added localized pain relief with no side effects. As a client, its ideal for those wanting strong pain relief without feeling intoxicated and without traces of THC or cannabis chemical properties making it into the blood stream.

Topical Benefits of CBD:

  • Helps reduce the appearance of scars
  • Anti-Inflammatory
  • Helps Bruising
  • Relieves Pain
  • Reduces Swelling
  • Reduces Muscle Spasm
