Jump back to the first part of this two-part series.

Step Three: creating client skins

  1. Now duplicate your master file and save it with a different name, e.g. Darkmode Skin.sketch.
  2. Delete all pages but Symbols (don’t worry about the warnings)
  3. Proceed to restyle everything as the brandbook/styleguide tells you to.
At that point, the Symbols page looked like this, all neatly laid out and clearly visible.

Step Four: applying the new style to the latest master

Here we’ll need a great plugin called Camilo. Grab it here: https://github.com/Pausansol/Camilo

  1. Go to File → Add As Library… and select the style file you’ve just created (e.g. Darkmode Skin.sketch)
  2. Open your original master file and duplicate it once again. Give it a nice name, say, Darkmode Test on Master.sketch
  3. Go to Plugins → Camilo. Make sure Darkmode Skin is selected and hit Switch.
Be patient. Sometimes it takes a couple of minutes to do its job.

After it’s done running, I went over the designs to make sure all was smooth:

Before
After

Notice how the margins are properly maintained despite different font size and paddings.

Step Five: saving as a separate file

At this point I had two new files: one is just a symbol collection/UI kit which was then handed over to developers via Zeplin and other is a completely styled master, complete with clickable prototype links that can be handed over to client’s customers for approval and verification.
