What We Are

Software Ascending is a publication that aims to rise above the noise floor of Medium’s most popular software topics; not necessarily by views, reads, claps, or any other metric of popularity, but by its value to you, an experienced software developer who isn’t done growing.

Instead of one more post on how to implement FizzBuzz in language du jour or how to start a project in the latest JavaScript framework, instead of yet another hot take on how to ace a programming interview without any experience, we want to bring you interesting, compelling, informative articles that will clear out the cobwebs, get your gears turning, and remind you why you love writing code.

But we can’t do that alone; in order to provide great content, we need great content. If you’ve got an article you’d like to submit for inclusion in the Software Ascending publication, email the story link or draft link to mearns.b@gmail.com.

What We Aren’t

We aren’t a collection of intro-level articles. We’re aren’t a set of tips and tricks for newbs. We aren’t a summary of perfectly good existing docs for common libraries and utilities. We’re aren’t a clearinghouse for all things tech.

We don’t have a problem with any of these things, and we especially value senior developers who put in time and effort to help new developers. But that’s not our aim with this publication

What We Want

We want high-quality articles written by experienced developers for experienced developers. We want articles that examine the principles and concepts of software engineering, that go beyond the documentation, that explore new paradigms and reimagine old ones. We want articles you can’t find elsewhere. We want articles that will push a mid-level developer into a senior role, and that will help a senior developer continue to grow.
