AI: State of the Union

I gave a 30-minute talk for a16z’s annual summit in November 2017, and we’ve now published it on YouTube for your viewing pleasure.

I describe what’s working and what’s not, hit some of the big topics (jobs, China, the Singularity), argue that Jiminy Cricket is a better movie character mascot for AI than The Terminator, and encourage people working on software (especially in organizations) to get started on their AI journey.

AI is going to get into all the software, just like databases did. It’s not too late to get started, and (bonus!) you don’t need to pay NBA salaries to hire new people to do it: just send some of your curious engineers to the six-month Udacity AI nanodegree program.
