The role of the Software Tester in an Agile environment
First of all, there is a need to define what the agile methodology or environment is all about.
Agile methodology is a software process that promotes continuous iteration of development and testing throughout the software development lifecycle. Agile software development involves a collaborative effort of cross-functional teams and their customers. This team may consist of the Product Owner, Project managers, Business Analyst, and the Software Tester. Projects are divided into sprints into which development and testing are carried out with proper feedback. All stakeholders are carried along and fully involved in the requirements gathering, test plan, and user acceptance phases, this means that quality is everyone's’ responsibility.
The role of a software tester in this environment may include:
- Attending of review meetings
- Develops and updates test plan, test cases, and scenarios
- Executes test process and report defects
- Discusses and tracks defect with developers and product owners
- Documents all test processes and execution
- Collaborates with all stakeholders involved in the development phase and after
- Retests the fixed bugs to check for its effect and existence.
- Communicates software changes and process improvement.
In all the role of the software tester is to ensure quality and release of quality products.
