Slack Enterprise Grid Released
Slack reached its first five million users with a simple, great product and one goal in mind: to make working lives simpler, more pleasant, and more productive. During that time, and because of its reputation, big companies have been using Slack to improve collaboration amongst teams. Many of these already do use slack — sometimes in smaller, less-than-official groups. It’s very clear that these companies don’t operate at the same scale than that of us, start-ups. That’s why Slack has created a new enterprise-grade product to bring Slack to large organizations. It’s called Slack Enterprise Grid.
How Enterprise Grid works
Slack Enterprise Grid works like a bigger Slack made of several smaller Slacks. It works as a company-level directory of employees, but with separate, simpler Slack groups that people can belong to.
Enterprise Grid provides some functionalities that big companies are always after: flexibility to create communication structures, many security and compliance features, and finally, it integrates with other applications that teams use at work. Slack Grid delivers information and better workflows within Slack itself.
We at PlanningWith.Cards all agree that this announcement was expected. These new productivity start-ups have a tough challenge when facing enterprise software companies (Companies like Microsoft, Oracle, Cisco, etc.), but they have got the flexibility advantage of a startup. It was about time for @SlackHQ to step up. Even more so with last month’s announcement of @Atlassian acquiring @Trello.
As @fromedome notes in this Recode.net post:
“Another seemingly obvious future step might be a global Grid of Grids, so teams from different companies can Slack with each other and really compete with email. But first things first.”
