Startup Sesh:
The ask all video interview series that amplifies the conversation on mental health and well-being for startup founders.

Startup Sesh — Episode #1 — Brad Feld — Expectations:
The first episode of our series features Brad Feld, Managing Director of the Foundry Group and Co-Founder of TechStars. Brad has been a voice of transparency and advocacy regarding mental health issues for entrepreneurs. He’s written and spoken about his own experiences with depression and has been the listening ear for many entrepreneurs since he first started his entrepreneurial and investing journey in 1987.

Host’s Story:
My name is Elizabeth Galbut and I’m the Founding Partner of A-Level Capital and SoGal Ventures, two startup venture capital firms.

During the fundraising of A-Level Capital, Faigy Mayer, a NYC-based entrepreneur died by suicide. She had taken data science classes from Johns Hopkins University and reminded me of many of the students I work with on a daily basis. She also reminded me of myself — young, female, smart, entrepreneurial — with a world of opportunities ahead of her. This wasn’t the first founder suicide I had read about, but her suicide hit me incredibly hard.

As an investor, I would be devastated and heartbroken if any entrepreneur I invested in, fell so deep into depression, that they took their own life. Over the past few months, I’ve been working with an incredible team of mental health professionals, suicide prevention advocates, and entrepreneurs and investors to amplify the conversation around mental health for startup founders. Special thanks to Efrem Epstein, Dr. Jeffrey Kranzler, and Josh Rivedal! This video series is just the beginning!
