The recent collapse of the crypto market brutally wiped out some crypto lenders and exchanges. Seoul seems to be bouncing back from the shock with relative ease. Here is a list of Web 3 developments, events, and partnerships promised in Seoul last month.

Korean government introduces regulatory plans to activate the Metaverse ecosystem

Uncertainty in regulations has always been a challenge for Web 3.0. The Korean government wants to change that. The Ministry of Science and ICT announced a “preemptive regulatory innovation plan to activate the Metaverse ecosystem.” The main goal of this plan is to create a foundation for both domestic and global Metaverse companies to compete on an equal footing by implementing innovative regulations beforehand. The plan is also aimed at promoting growth throughout the entire Metaverse ecosystem.

Although the word Metaverse conjures the image of a playful game, the term is frequently used by the Korean government to refer to a seriously immersive digital world that combines all types of new technology.

NFT Korea Festival takes place at DDP

NFT Korea Festival 2023, the largest NFT festival in Korea, was held on the 7th of March. This event was co-hosted by The Moon Labs and Superchief Gallery. The NFT marketplace palyNomm (operated by The Moon Labs) led the event’s operations. At the festival, visitors could experience 8-meter tall giant digital monolith displays that exhibited dynamic NFTs. All the works exhibited at the event were sold out by the morning of the second day.

PUBLISH VENTURES partners with LiveWith to create an ESG-friendly Web3 ecosystem

Web3-based company builder PUBLISH VENTURES announced that it has signed a business agreement with ESG-specialized company LiveWith to create a Web3 ecosystem that is ESG-friendly with the participation of organizations, companies, and individuals.

Decentralized networks necessitate a complex infrastructure and the implementation of consensus protocols, which can be energy-intensive in some cases. This partnership could be a small step of a giant leap.

Korean game companies shine at GDC 2023

Korean gaming companies took the spotlight at the world’s largest game developer conference, ‘GDC (Game Developers Conference) 2023’. Netmarble unveiled the core gameplay of its metaverse-based real estate/board game, Everyone’s Marble 2: Metaworld. Blockchain game developer Delabs announced their plans to achieve a truly decentralized game with Polygon where the community ultimately has ownership, Delabs with their Web3 racing game, Rumble Racing Star (RRS).

UNOPND announced to co-host 2023 SEOUL META WEEK, Asia’s largest Web3 festival

Web3 venture studio UNOPND announced that it will participate as a co-host in the 2023 SEOUL META WEEK (June 26th — June 30th). Seoul Meta Week is the largest networking and knowledge-sharing festival in Asia, where global leaders, entrepreneurs, experts, creators, influencers, and others from various industries come together to share the trends and information of various industries such as Web3, Blockchain, AI, and the Metaverse.

Modern Lion partners with LBank to enhance Korea’s Web 3.0 ecosystem

International partnerships made to improve Korea’s Web 3.0 ecosystem should not go unnoticed. Modern Lion announced that it has signed an MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) with global blockchain company LBank, focusing on the expansion of the Web3 ecosystem and education for citizens.

SK Telecom partners with Mirae Asset Securities for Next Finance Initiative to promote tokenization

SK Telecom (the largest wireless carrier in South Korea) announced on March 30th that it signed an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with Mirae Asset Securities (one of the largest financial services companies in South Korea) to create a Next Finance Initiative consortium to prepare for and promote tokenization. ‘Tokenization’ refers to a business that supports the securitization of various assets such as real estate and artworks and issues and distributes token securities based on distributed ledger technology.

Blockchain has already taken over the entertainment industry in Korea — could the real estate industry be the next beneficiary?
