The SolarCoin Foundation PBC has joined the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Coalition for Action, a key international network for the Global Energy Transition.

“By joining the coalition, SolarCoin and IRENA can work more closely in promoting a Solar Economy and to address the various economic issues related to solar energy and renewables development” — Nick Gogerty, Co-founder of the SolarCoin foundation.

In January 2014, the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and 35 global industry and civil society organizations focused on renewable energy signed a Joint Statement on Forming a Coalition for Action to Bolster Public Support for Renewable Energy.

In 2018, the IRENA Coalition for Action had grown to 77 members including private companies, industry associations, civil society, research institutes and international organizations.

“Solar Energy is the largest renewable energy source available and SolarCoin is the leading global reward system for Solar Energy. By teaming up with IRENA Coalition for Action, SolarCoin can increase the prominence of solar energy rewards and communicate the multiple benefits of solar economic development effectively,” stated Nick Gogerty Co-founder of SolarCoin.

IRENA is an intergovernmental body based in Abu Dhabi and comprised of 183 countries (159 members and 24 states in accession).

Fellow members of the exclusive IRENA Coalition for action include:

ABB, ENEL GreenPower, Greenpeace, RE100 (+100 of world’s largest consumer brands), Iberdrola, MASDAR, Power for All, RMI (rocky mountain institute), United Nations Foundation, World Resources Institute and the WWF (World Wildlife Foundation) among others.

The Coalition forms a key international network to discuss industry trends, share knowledge and exchange best practices for the global energy transformation. Currently, the Coalition for Action operates through the following work streams:

  • Business & Investors Working Group — Scaling up RE Investments
  • Sub Group Community Energy
  • Communication Working Group
  • Towards 100% Renewable Energy

SolarCoin is a global solar energy reward for verified producers of solar energy, already active in 71 countries with over 12 terawatt-hours (TWh) of energy incentivized, enough to provide a month of power to 12 million US households. SolarCoin is free to all producers of solar energy.
