Autumn is in full swing here in Kansas City and there are a wealth of great events to take part in, from volunteer opportunities to hikes among fall-foliage.
Annual Honeysuckle Battle
Saturday, November 3, 9:00 AM — Noon
Join Bridging the Gap for their annual volunteer workday to remove invasive exotic honeysuckle and other invasive woody plants from the woodlands. Volunteers are needed to “cut and treat invasive woody plants from this beautiful woodland and glade habitat, helping native flowers and grasses flourish again in this stunning wild area.”
There are two locations to choose from:

Cliffhanger Run 5k and 10k
Saturday, November 3, 8:00 AM — Noon
This year we are back at Gladstone Elementary with the annual 5K and the new 10K distances, 8am Start. There is also now a 1mi option for kids 12 & under.
Race starts from 314 Cliff Drive Pl, Kansas City, MO 64123
This race benefits Neighbor to Neighbor and provides local kids with race training and race entries. You can sponsor a kid through our registration page.
Fall tour of Baldwin Woods Forest Preserve
Saturday, October 27, 10 a.m.-noon
Kansas Biological Survey scientists and University of Kansas biologist Bill Busby will lead a tour of the forest preserve. Visitors will experience the oak‐hickory forest in fall color, with topographical variations and historic features more visible during partial leaf fall. Learn more here.
Native Plants: Growing Natives from Seed

Interested in learning more about planting native plants? With a little time, planning, and patience you can grow your own garden using seeds. Join Missouri Conservation Department staff at Burr Oak Woods Conservation Nature Center to learn about techniques for successful seed germination and taking care of seedlings. Learn more here.
