After a tumultuous year for the travel industry due to the global Covid-19 pandemic, many countries are beginning the slow process of reopening. Singapore is one of those countries and is now open to residents from a total of 6 countries.

Who is allowed to travel to Singapore?

Singapore is currently open to residents from 6 countries for both leisure and business travel. The 6 countries are Australia, New Zealand, China, Brunei, Taiwan and Vietnam. There is no restriction regarding reasons for travel for residents belonging to each of these countries, however, each individual will need to get a Covid-19 test upon arrival.

What are the entry requirements for travelling to Singapore?

There are no entry requirements for Singapore citizens and permanent residents. If you belong to this category, you will be able to return home with no application necessary.

All other travelers, whether for business or leisure, will need to submit an application and be approved for entry. They will additionally need to meet the standard criteria of possessing a valid passport with at least 6 months validity remaining.

For leisure travel, visitors from the 6 listed countries will need to apply for an Air Travel Pass prior to arrival. According to the CDC, Singapore is one of the safest countries to visit based on Covid-19 numbers. They have rated the country as ‘level 1’, indicating a low risk for travelers as risk of contracting and getting Covid-19 is low.

How has the Covid-19 pandemic been managed in Singapore?

Despite being one of the first countries affected by Covid-19, the country has been able to manage the virus effectively. Singapore has relatively tight social controls and these have allowed the government to implement effective tracing processes that have aided in the effective monitoring and isolation of infected individuals.

Citizens and residents were asked to practice good hygiene and remain at home if unwell. Anybody caught defying health officials faced severe punishment, including jail time for breaking quarantine rules.

This approach resulted in a dramatic reduction of Covid-19 cases, allowing the country to begin a re-opening of the economy in mid-June. Retail and hospitality venues were opened with social distancing practices, followed by religious ceremonies for up to 50 people, then social gatherings of up to 100 people. The country continues to monitor the situation as they further open up their economy.
