Smart Companies Take Smart Risks

Solid is known for taking risks with new technologies. When we first started in the business we were approach by Cinemanow to create a Television application using Yahoo and Intel hardware that had not been created yet.

We like to challenge ourselves, but most importantly we really like it when we have a client that challenges us to create something new and amazing for them.

Companies today are making meaningful investments in Internet of Things (IoT) technology in the realm of manufacturing. Smart sensors, machine learning, and mobile applications are only a few of the concepts being incorporated into organizations using Industrial IoT technology (IIoT). Reducing dependencies on human intervention in day-to-day operations will enhance the pace and quality of operations.

Smart Sensors

Take smart sensors for example, the power of sensor analytics comes from not only quantifying data at a particular point in time, but by putting data in context over time and examining how it correlates with other data. Intel installed sensors on their CPU-assembly modules which complete the final steps of manufacturing. By using the sensor data, Intel is able to reduce the number of machine failures and boost productivity, as well as assembly line uptime.

Machine Learning

Machine learning’s main purpose is to produce computer algorithms for automatic data processing instead of writing code. Developers only need to input the data into an algorithm which automatically improves itself by finding patterns within the data. This establishes the necessary logic to solve a task and produce results.

IIoT brings more data, faster, from a larger variety of sources. Managing data complexity to be able to respond to events in a timely manner will require a smoother, more automated approach. One way to achieve that would be machine learning, as it can analyze complex data that can develop patterns providing useful reporting for a company.

The increase in the quantity and quality of data that is being gathered through smart sensor systems has open doors for organizations to create mobile applications that can be integrated with multiple systems to communicate, control, and improve production reporting.

Mobile applications linked to IIoT devices are powerful tools which reduce process time because they are portable and so many users already know how to use the managed devices. Unlike a stationary computer, a smartphone or tablet has the mobility and simplicity to have an immediately positive impact on linked devices, including capacity planning, machine monitoring and performance management.
