Harm-Denial: The Root of Religious Evil

At its best religion enhances connections: to self, others, the wide world, and and some transcendent Higher Power. (The word, “religion” is from the latin root, ligare — to bind, connect, as in “ligament.”) But something often goes wrong, and religion works for some — enhances social capital, improves mental and physical health — even while it becomes a source of trauma for others.
