“We must connect the dots between climate change, water scarcity, energy shortages, global health, food security and women’s empowerment. Solutions to one problem must be solutions for all.” — Ban Ki-moon

In this series, I will be unpacking climate change as an intersectional issue, beginning with the connections to those living with HIV/AIDS. I believe passionately that while this is an emerging topic, it’s imperative to connect the dots and explore solutions.

The climate crisis is at the root of our global problems, and HIV/AIDS is urgent on the same scale. Those who have done the least to create climate change — the poorest, disenfranchised communities in colonized countries — will suffer disproportionately. Climate action, or lack thereof, will have a ripple effect on these communities.

Solutions For All is the beginning of an ongoing multimedia collection that will take an intersectional approach to storytelling. I’ll begin by looking closely at fear and stigma and how these inform us as we make connections and find solutions.

My hope is to create a portfolio with a lot of heart, sharing a human side to our learning. As we gain empathy and awareness, we can connect to solutions. If we know that our seemingly insurmountable issues are not isolated, we can understand that neither are we.

These are stories of, and for, the planet. These are the things that we all have in common.
