Between August 29 and October 7, in Campinas (São Paulo, Brazil), the Phenol and Derivatives business of GBU Coatis will be exhibiting at the Mostra + Sustentável 2018 trade fair for architecture and decoration, which combines style, technology, business generation and commitment to a positive social legacy. Coatis and Pertech, a Latin American leader in decorative laminates, will sponsor one of the areas in the 1924 mansion that hosts this edition of the event. The building, which once housed the Campinas Hospice, currently belongs to the Dr. Cândido Ferreira Health Service, a non-profit institution that serves people with mental disorders and who benefit from projects developed for the trade fair, in addition to the income from ticket sales.

There are 42 areas in total designed by architects who, inspired by the eco-chic hostel concept proposed by the organizers of the event, have given new life to existing materials and structures through reuse techniques, as well as transforming products and services from the market into raw material for their creations. “The result was a completely revitalized property that, after the trade fair, will meet the needs of the institution and the approximately 7,000 patients treated every month,” says Antonio Leite, director of Phenol and Derivatives.

Called “Sustentalks,” the Solvay and Pertech space was designed by the architect Roseana Desenso Monteiro in partnership with architect, Elton Casarin, and interior designer, Vani Mazoni. They have transformed the 110 m2 room — the largest room in the house — into a modern space that can be used as an auditorium, common room, training and co-working space. “In it, visitors can see flooring and decorative pieces created with laminates manufactured by Pertech with phenolic resins obtained from our phenol,” says Marlise Margaritelli, marketing manager of Phenol and Derivatives. “The project is beautiful, with fascinating textured laminates which show how modern materials made from phenolic resin are,” says Daniela Manique, CEO of Solvay Latin America and the Coatis GBU.

The space includes panels created by muralists, which have become a separate attraction (see Spotlight: “A space to remember and inspire”).

During the event, the Solvay and Pertech space will host a series of talks about sustainability with professionals from the worlds of architecture, design, gastronomy and fashion, among others. The goal is to raise awareness and encourage people to adopt sustainable practices in their daily lives.

Participation in Sustentalks is free for visitors who buy the Passport ticket.

After serving as inspiration for professionals in the area of decoration and the visitors to the event, the environment will remain as a legacy of the two companies for the Candid Ferreira institution. This combination of marketing, appreciation of sustainability and contributing to society is one of the great differentials in the initiative that united Coatis and Pertech, showing the proximity between supplier and customer, and the understanding between the companies that, in addition to business, share socio-environmental values and commitments. “This is a must in today’s world and we are engaged together with our suppliers and customers in that regard, establishing our purpose of sustainable chain formation in obtaining our final product. It’s great to be with Solvay in this partnership,” said Edevaldo Sabaine, CEO of Pertech.

Coatis CEO Daniela believes the project has a beauty all of its own. “It is not a booth that will be dismantled at the end of the event. We are doing something lasting, which will serve the institution and its users,” she says. “Undoubtedly, this is a very interesting way to promote new products, promote sustainability and help an institution that does important work in the area of mental health,” agrees Edevaldo. “Taking part in this event is a rewarding experience.”

In addition to using the newly renovated mansion for its own activities, the Dr. Cândido Ferreira Health Service will be able to rent space for events for companies and organizations, generating funds to finance the work it does.
