Solvay continues to demonstrate its commitment to local communities with, most recently, more than 150 Solvay Korea employees pitching in to clean the shores of Jeju Island, located south of Korea.

Upon their arrival to Jeju Island, colleagues headed straight to the tourist route of Olle-gil and cleaned route №7, located south of the island. Colleagues walked the popular route, cleaning it and the corresponding shoreline along the way. Recent heavy rain in the area had left trash such as PET bottles and Styrofoam parts floating in the water and caught between large stones on the shoreline.

Colleagues said it was like a game of hide-and-seek to spot the offending items and clear them from the natural surroundings.

Employees in Solvay Korea have been visiting Jeju Island for workshops for many years. It is a popular tourist destination with its beautiful nature and and easy hour flight from Seoul, Korea. From 2017, the Korea Societal Action Team has been combining a trip to the island with a social activity. Last year, for example, they cleaned the area around their hotel.

“Colleagues are happy to do this kind of societal activity as it helps clean our planet, which is good for us and for generations to come,” says SK Pyung, the Country Manager of Solvay in Korea.
