Every year I’m amazed by just how quickly Canvas comes back around, but this year is an exception. It’s our 5th birthday so not only have we launched things a few months earlier than we traditionally have done, but we’ve also got some surprises up our sleeve.

5 years ago it was 80 people in a small room, now it’s more than 300 in one of the best venues in Europe

We received so much amazing feedback from last year’s event, we’ve listened to it all and looked at what we did well and what could be improved. Thankfully, there wasn’t much to change but we obviously want to keep things fresh.

We decided that the identity was still hugely relevant, so for 2016 we’re sticking with “the insider stories” theme and promise to give you 10 talks across the course of one day that deliver just that. We’ll be hearing from people working in UX, design, product management and development as we explore how they’re pushing the boundaries of the products and services they’re working hard on.

Canvas 2016 will again be heading back to the Library of Birmingham, the superb venue right in the heart of the city. The date we’ve set is Thursday 20th October and as in previous years we promise some great talks followed by some well earned drinks, this year courtesy of our after party sponsor Breakthrough Funding (they help loads of companies get cash back through R&D tax credits). We’ve got some really fun things planned for the after party but more on that in the coming months!

Our first round of speakers

We’re thrilled to announce our first round of speakers; Jane Austin at The Telegraph, Dan Becker from Strava and Brian Donohue at Intercom. Jane heads up the UX team for one of the biggest newspapers in the world whilst Dan is Design Director at Strava, the global fitness app. Brian is Senior Product Manager at Intercom, a customer intelligence platform that connects businesses with their customers all over the globe. We’ve got plenty more to be announced, so make sure you follow us @canvasconf to keep up to date.
