Colorado seriously can’t catch a break. First, there was the still-unsolved and now-infamous murder of JonBenét Ramsey in Boulder. Second, justice for Durango’s Dylan Redwine has been postponed repeatedly since 2017; even though investigators uncovered partial remains in 2013.

Let’s back up for a moment, though, and talk about what led up to this point.

The Victim

Dylan Nicholas Redwine was born on February 6, 1999 to Mark Redwine and Elaine Hatfield. His parents later divorced after being married for 18 years. At the time of their son’s disappearance, his parents were enmeshed in a contentious custody debate, but they shared responsibility for Dylan at the time.

In fact, Dylan was on a court-ordered visit with his father when he vanished without a trace. Security cameras at Walmart showed him with Mark on the night of November 18, after which they went to McDonald’s and then back to Mark’s home in Bayfield, Colorado.

The Timeline

November 19, 2012, circa 7:30 am: Mark Redwine tries to rouse Dylan but the thirteen-year-old wanted no parts of it, so Mark left him…
