Ganesh Chaturthi is all set to hit us with extravaganza, and people are excited to welcome their beloved Bappa home.

As no Indian festival is complete without lip-smacking delicacies, Ganesh Chaturthi is no exception. The 10-days festival is known for elaborate meals from Chappan Bhog to Motichoor Ladoos to Puran Poli varying from region to region.

Given the fondness of Ganesha for Modak, it is one of the most famous delicacy offered to him by people across. While Ukadiche Modak is what s traditionally made as a prasad. Fried Modaks are also offered as they are more comfortable and quick to make.

Let’s get to the ingredients

For Stuffing

🔷1 bowl crushed coconut

🔷 1/2 bowl jaggery (Gud)

🔷 1 Bowl roasted dry fruits (optional)

🔷 1 tea spoon poppy seeds (Khaskhas)

🔷 1 tea spoon cardamom powder (Elaichi powder)

🔷 1 tea spoon Nutmeg powder (Jaiphal)

For Cover

🔷 1 bowl of wheat flour

🔷 2 table spoon of Semolina (Rava)

🔷1 cup Milk

🔷 1 table spoon salt

🔷 1 table spoon ghee

Procedure

Stuffing

🔷 Turn the heat on medium flame and add 1 table spoon of ghee and coconut into it. Stir well until the coconut becomes little dry.

🔷 Add jaggery and keep stiring until the jaggery melts completely.

🔷 Add roasted dry fruits, poppy seeds(khaskhas), cardamom powder (Elaichi powder), Nutmeg powder (Jaiphal powder) and mix it well

🔷 Cook for another 2–3 minutes and then turn off the heat. Do not overcook

🔷 Keep the stuffing aside for cooling

🔷 By the time the stuffing cools down, you can start to prepare the cover

Cover

🔷Take wheat flour, semolina (Rava) into a bowl

🔷Add one tea spoon of salt into it

🔷Add 1 table spoon of ghee and mix them well with your fingertips

🔷 Now add little milk/ water at a time and knead into a stiff and smooth dough.

🔷 Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 10 minutes

🔷 After 10 mins knead the dough once again and make 11 small size balls out of it. Flatten the balls using your palm.

🔷Take your rolling board and roll it into a medium sized circle. Keep the edges thinner than the center part.

🔷Add some stuffing into the center and apply some water/ milk on the edges with your fingertips or you can also use the brush.

🔷 Now take it into your hand and start pinching the edges with your first finger and thumb.

🔷 The closer you pinch the edges, the more beautiful it will look

🔷 Now bring all the edges together carefully and pinch it together at the centre to seal it.

🔷 Continue to do the same with the rest of the balls.

Frying

🔷 Once you’re done, keep the pan of oil on the medium flame.

🔷 Oil should be medium hot when you start to fry the Modak

🔷Fry until the Modak turns golden brown and crispy from all the sides.

🔷 Take them out into a plate and let them cool before offering it to god
