Here’s the second edition of my Something To Celebrate newsletter, a weekly collection of ideas and tips for turning bad days around and staying connected with those you care about.

Hey, hey, hiya!

It’s a pretty basic week after an understandably eventful couple of ‘em. It’s extremely acceptable to turn down the dial and not make every day a full-on blowout party this week

It’s ok to celebrate rest and it’s ok to celebrate quiet, nice moments in the home.

Even if you’re feeling celebratory but wanting to rein it in, it’s ok to throw a dance party just for you and yours.

Turn it up or turn it down; just do it with intention and make it joyful.

Let’s do it!

Links To Cool Things

(Sung to the tune of SOFI TUKKER’s Purple Hat)

  • “Purple Bags:” Crown Royal Purple Bag Project
When thinking about Crown Royal do memories of past parties come rushing back? The Whiskey brand is certainly known for kicking off some good times but right now they’re also doing a good thing for others! They have started a program for reusing their iconic purple bags by turning them into care packages for military service people overseas. If you go to this link you have the opportunity to customize up to 10 care packages with some of the most requested snacks by our troops and you can leave them a personal message. It’s one hundred percent free to do, so help out if you can.
  • “Color Wall:” Giant Wall Sized Coloring Poster
If you’ve got growing concerns about the upcoming winter and how to pass the time if we’re stuck indoors again, I can not recommend this activity highly enough. Getcherself this ultra mega super giant poster, a fancy pack of crayons or color pencils, and then WHEW BUDDY you’ve got months of entertainment ahead of you. Kelli and I were missing NYC something fierce so we picked up the NYC poster, but if that’s not your style, you can check out the website for one that strikes your fancy.
  • “Dancing on the People:” Corona & Chill Dance Parties
Chris Romero runs Cutmaster Music and is one of the premier event DJs in NM. Since COVID hit, he’s pivoted to throwing some of the most fun and engaging online dance parties around. Here’s more about what he does in his own words: “I’m currently running a weekly DJ Mix Sesh called Corona & Chill on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. I mix it up every show and try to keep it fresh. So you never know what you’re gonna get and I love to mix everything. I love the interaction so say what’s up and join in.” Catch him on Twitch and dance it the heck up!

Pets Love You and Your Brain Loves Pets

Here’s a fun video about how great dogs are (although, does anyone need convincing?).

From the video’s description: “We all love petting dogs, but did you know petting a dog actually changes your brain chemistry? It’s literally like a drug.”

A big shoutout to Genevieve Mueller for submitting this video.

Even if you don’t have a dog of your own, you can, like, uh, microdose these dog feels by following FB groups like Dogspotting online!

I kept trying to get my cat to record a rebuttal but she could not be bothered.

Holidays to Celebrate:

November 16
Button Day

Have a Party With Your Bear Day

International Tolerance Day

National Fast Food Day

Pick one or some of the more obscure holidays and do something fun!

What about you?

Respond directly to this and tell me any personal things you are or someone close to you is celebrating (bdays, graduations, awards, high scores, etc etc etc).

We’ll make sure to feature them and cheer you on in next week’s email!

Alrighty, that’s it for this week.

Oh wait, one more thing! If you’re bored on Thursday night 11/26, check out Sarah Kennedy and Friends on The Box Performance Space and Improv Theatre’s Youtube page. 6 pm PST/7 pm MST/8 pm CST/9 pm EST and totally free.

We’ll talk again next week.

Ps. These emails take some time to put together and I do it for “the love of the game.” Truly because of my love for spreading joy.

If you were (by any chance) looking for a way to help out, I’d appreciate you sharing this with a friend who you think would dig what we’re doing. They can subscribe by clicking this link.
