Don’t fight Cobra Kai in the sand
Wait for the tourney instead
LaRusso and Lawrence on the board
All-Valley spectators keepin’ score
No mercy
Johnny’s bloody nose
Daniel’s only chance is crane kicking

Don’t spray water on Johnny’s head
While he’s rolling his pot cigarette
Skeletons run out the party door
Daniel’s flagellation leaves him sore
He’s woozy
Decisions unwise
Miyagi saves him from a bad beating

I fight the Cobra Kai
Waxing on and off, too
I can kick you blind
I protect the family jewels
Follow Miyagi’s rules
Sensie’s lost his mind
And I don’t need to sand the floor to know that
I can kick you blind (yes, Johnny, you)
I can kiss you blind (yes, Ali, you)
I can heal my mind (find balance, too)
I can read your mind

Don’t take losing my girlfriend in stride
Don’t like an old man making us writhe
The Cobra Kai are declaring war
Cause we ain’t gonna take anymore aggrieving
You’re only pint-size, your ruin we’ll be achieving

I am the Cobra Kai
The dojo’s my muse
I’m the first to strike
We are foes at high school
Sweep the leg though it’s cruel
Sensei’s lost his mind
And I don’t need another trophy to know that
I can kick you blind (yes, Daniel, you)
I can kiss you blind (yes, Ali, you)
I can fall behind (placed number two)
I can read your mind

I fight the Cobra Kai
Waxing on and off, too
I can kick you blind
I protect the family jewels
Follow Miyagi’s rules
Sensie’s lost his mind
And I don’t need to sand the floor to know that
I can kick you blind (yes, Johnny, you)
I can kiss you blind (yes, Ali, you)
I can heal my mind (find balance, too)
I can read your mind

Welp, this seems to be my parody schtick. Take an 80s song and add in pop culture references. Voila! Today’s song parody features early 80s mega radio hit, “Eye in the Sky,” infused with references to one of my all-time favorite movies, The Karate Kid (duh).

Until her 40’s, Bonnie’s worst nightmare included writing and sharing personal stories publicly. At her friends’ suggestion, she bemusedly started Bonnie’s Mixed Tape on Medium in 2017. She remains shocked that anyone reads her stories and that P.S. I Love You, Assemblage, the Writing Cooperative, and the Ascent have published her work.

Bonnie loves all types of music, but really, really, really loves the 80s.

Thank you for reading this story

I know you are busy and have lots of ways you could be spending your time. you using your time to read my work means the world to me — my sincerest thanks!
