Burning Before Me

Almos Bechtold, via Unsplash

I am done running
away from myself — too long
have I hit dead ends.

I may be cut down
and coerced, but I’d rather
not lose who I am.

The odds are always
against me, but I am not
their bitter servant.

Burning before me
is reality — my dreams
help me walk through flames.
