Song of the Lark

I Am A Page Torn

Joyce McCown, via Unsplash

I am a page torn
from the book of a stranger
with a life detached
from my own — the narrative
eclipses a dream of mine.

I judge the story
as serene as airy skies —
oh, how wrong I am
to believe that the surface
could not reveal heaviness.
