My Mother Died Today

I wish I didn’t have to say this, but I have a funeral to attend soon — and February will not be a normal or a productive month for me.

Last Tuesday morning, I received a text from my father about my mother passing out.

“Maybe it was just food poisoning,” I thought to myself, but somewhere in the back of my mind, I sensed that it was much worse.

She was taken to the closest emergency room, but shortly after examining her, the doctors said they could not do anything about it.

There was a sudden massive bleeding in her brain — the cause was unknown at the time. She had to be transported by helicopter (and not a regular ambulance) to the largest hospital in Northern Virginia because it was that life-threatening.

Later that night, I received the final diagnosis. The neurosurgeon said that nothing can be done because it was far too late. There was no chance of recovery from this.

So what happened was a blood vessel burst in her brain. It was the exact, same way my grandfather (her father) died in 2019, not too long ago. The difference was my grandfather lived up to the age of 89 (and lived the longest out of all my grandparents).
