The Cinematic Orchestra is a British nu jazz and electronic music group, created in 1999 by Jason Swinscoe. Their sound employes a live band which improvises along with turntablist and electronic elements, they often remix the live source material to produce a combination of live jazz improvisation with electronica. It’s difficult to understand where the improvisation end and the productions begins. Gilles Peterson describes their sound like “All the toughest Hollywood thrillers with neon light that you’ve ever seen, the sound of thousands of femme fatales, private investigators now condemned and bitter plots remixed and ingeniously rewritten in an audio narrative”.
