We are all made up of the elements we are exposed to over our lifetimes. The information we consume daily changes us. From our earliest experiences as babies through our entire lives we absorb things that shape us.

Central to them is the music we listen to. Most of us here are readers and writers and fans of the arts of every kind. Some can’t listen to music while they write, others use it as their muse.

It is the mission of Songstories to share those experiences.

Music is my lifeblood. It’s been my most stable companion for as long as I remember. Through childhood, military service, marriage, children, alcoholism — it’s been there for me.

But it’s not just that I love to listen to it. It affects my life. It has caused hurt and pain and pleasure and joy. It affects my life to the point where I began a commonplace book to record all the songs and lyrics that have changed my life.

This is the part I’m excited about:

Do you have a song you don’t listen to because you save it for the perfect moments? Songstories is the place for those moments.

The piece can be about anything, but it has to be written around the song. Preferably one song at a time. That’s kind of what it’s about — expression through music.
