Hey Rockers, Can You Help?
Looking for a few stories
Hey music lovers, who crave to write; can I ask for your help?
The request comes a little further down the page, but first some background music.
My son started a podcast under a year ago and just produced his 52nd episode. I pushed him to do it, because he loves music so much and can throw out music trivia, like Roger Clemens pitching on crack.
In the podcast, Donovan’s Rockin Song Stories, he plays the hits that we rockers love. He discusses the musicians, the songs, albums, and the stories behind them.
Well, now he is digging it so much, and it is helping his heart to sing a little louder. See, he was diagnosed with _____ 20-plus years ago, and although his challenges have been brutal, he always overcame them with persistence and by turning up the volume on his playlist.
I left the label he was given blank because I never liked them and didn’t want it to be a contributing factor to my request. I understand sometimes these terms can give people a brief insight into what a person is experiencing. However, I do my best to avoid them.
Even when my son was growing up, I never told him he had autism. I didn't see the point. I think it is imperative that people treat people like people regardless of a condition given by a bunch of morons with a degree on their wall and a DSM-V on their desk.
Yeah, I said it, MORONS.
When you hand out a life sentence without biological or physiological testing, you are a moron.
Thankfully, I found the right doctors who did proper testing, and with unconventional treatments and lifestyle changes, my son made incredible strides.
Donovan went from a nonverbal, stimming child to hosting his own podcast. Twenty years ago, most would have figured he would end up institutionalized; he was that bad. But I refused to settle for anything but the truth, and the truth was he was born perfect. He just needed a little (OK, a LOT) of polishing.
My son’s discovery of his label wasn't until he was in his teens and it was a very awkward moment (for me). He was standing over my shoulder, reading a manuscript I was typing about his healing journey.
I was tempted to cover up the screen but thought it would be suspicious and would then have to come up with some crazy story about why I was blocking his view. I am not a good liar. Ok, I don't lie, period!
Note: My brute honestly has ticked some people off, but hey, dishonesty is a disservice, in my opinion.
As I continued to face forward, looking at the computer, I could feel him reading the words behind me. I became still and closed my eyes. I inhaled with a slight cringe.
His reaction was priceless. “I have autism?”
I meekly responded with a “yeah,” wondering what was coming next.
He said, “Hmm, that’s too bad,” and walked away.
This is how my son handles most things in life. He moves on and embraces his next task with determination. He has now resolved to make his love for music a successful venture, and we could use a helping hand. A writer’s hand, that is!
Here is what I am doing and how you can assist.
Years ago, I created a website to promote natural healing, and since music is therapeutic; I want to incorporate it.
We originally had a separate site with his music stories and affiliate links, but now I want to combine them. I am in the process of that, and as you all know, these things take time.
Therefore, I would love to get some help. If you are interested in sending me a music article to add to the site, it would be a blessing.
Please let me know what I can do in return. You are free to add a bio and links or whatever the heck you want honestly. There is no competition, only collaboration.
I just need a few to get the ball rolling faster, but who knows what it may lead to?
We all know music heals, and our mission is to give people options and the freedom to find their own rhythm.
