The cover for the single.

‘Radar’, serving as my introduction to the difficult to define new group 10–19 & The Number Men (as they infuse elements from a wide range of genres — rap, trip-hop, house, downtempo, jazz and even punk. It’s dizzying!), is all you can really ask from an introduction to a new band.

Beginning relatively gently, with drums that provide space for keyboards and light guitar to creep in, before allowing rapper 10–19 to deliver a heavily edited verse that is just perceptible enough to add to the soundscape in an eerie way.

With production chopped and screwed by Joel Kynan, this disorienting track is great fun even in its brevity. The Magic Point remix, released simultaneously, brings in EDM elements that give the track an entirely different energy in a way that all best remixes should.

It’s an enticing introduction to a new group for me, one that builds anticipation for what may be coming next from the genre-defying 10–19 & the Number Men.
