Take Me to the River

and don’t drag me away

In the summer of 1971, my grandmother died two days before my fifteenth birthday. Experiencing grief at fifteen is a tricky thing. The loss of a loved one is palpable, but hormones still rage on asking to be fed and sustained through three-hour phone calls and a visit from that girl I longed for.
