A responsible native of mother earth

“You carry Mother Earth within you. She is not outside of you. Mother Earth is not just your environment. “
Nhat Hanh

I woke up this morning with a rhetorical question: “In an era of rabid nationalism, what does it mean to be a responsible native of Mother Earth?” I found my answer by revisiting the values I hold dear to my heart.

As a responsible native of Mother Earth,

I dedicate myself to preservation of Mother Earth.

I will commit to respectfully and responsibly nurturing, sharing and consuming the resources of nature.

I will dedicate myself to respecting the diversity of life because I believe that in this diversity lies the very essence of creativity.

I commit myself to drawing joy- not through mindless consumption of resources but by pursuing a path of curiosity and creativity.

I will strive for conflict resolution over aggravation.

I will encourage those who want to pursue their dreams and lend a helping hand to those who are left behind.

I will participate in activities that are focused on encouraging collective creativity rather than serving cravings for self gratification.

I will pursue every opportunity to harness one resource we all have in us in abundance- love and refrain from becoming a carrier for passing on hateful memes.

I will not let my imagination of the future be tainted by narrow parochial considerations. Instead I will look at the future through the lens of empathy and compassion.

Finally, I see myself as a story teller dedicated to inspiring imagination of a future full of hope. In this role, I will follow the profound wisdom of of Gandhi, who once said-

“In a gentle way, you can shake the world.”

I will strive to be a responsible native of mother earth.
