Dare to imagine the future

No matter
how much money we have,
how mobile we are, or
how much energy we have,
we all have one capacity
that will never hold us back
or drag us down.
The capacity to step out
of our reality and
into the world of imagination.
The capacity to imagine
the unimaginable.
Imagination can free us
from drudgery
from pain
from injustice
from anger
from fear
from diffidences
from self doubt
from inaction.
Just. a day before
his assassination
Dr. King said to his followers,
“I’ve been to the mountaintop.”
He was already imagining
the promised land of freedom.
Even 27 years of
solitary confinement
could not keep Dr Mandela
from imagining
freedom from apartheid and the truth and reconciliation commission.
Ravindranath Tagore imagined
a future for his country,
“Where the mind is without fear
And head is held high
Where knowledge is free
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments
By narrow domestic walls
Where words come out from the depth of truth
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way
Into the dreary desert sand of dead habit
Where the mind is led forward by thee
Into ever-widening thought and action
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake”.
To Jonathan Livingston seagull
imagination brought
higher plane of existence
through perfection
of knowledge.
Imagination fuels
hope, action and determination
Imagination can help
resolve mysteries
dissolve disputes
explain complexities
unlock deadlocks
untangle mental blocks
explore alternatives and
inspire action.
The past
cannot be changed,
though we can learn from it.
The present
will pass us quickly.
The future holds
infinite possibilities
and abundant opportunities
for those who will dare to imagine it.
