SONM Data Streams for IoT and IoE

There are two main types of future technological concepts to take into account. On the one hand, there is the Internet of Things (IoT), which mostly relies on connected physical devices to the Internet. On the other hand, there is the Internet of Everything (IoE), which literally connects separate concepts into one cohesive unit. Optimizing data streams for both concepts is virtually impossible, as each has its own set of problems. This is where an Ethereum smart contract-based environment can make a big difference.

IoT Vs IoE: Very Different, Yet Both Problematic

A lot of industry experts are very excited regarding the future of Internet of Things. Connecting a few million devices to the World Wide Web will open up an unlimited amount of new possibilities. Right now, the majority of data in the IoT sector is processed by private and centralized clouds, which opens up a lot more problems in its own regard.

Centralized cloud technology has many weaknesses, including a central point of failure, and potential exposure of data to third parties. Such a technological standard cannot be used for the Internet of Everything. Instead, a new solution has to be found. An Ethereum smart contract-based environment can solve all speed and safety concerns with relative ease.

Information does not pass through proprietary servers and middlemen, but communicates in a peer-to-peer fashion. There is no risk of getting compromised or data being manipulated from the outside. Moreover, the concept of fog computing reduces the computing power required to complete tasks related to IoT and IoE.

Fog Computing is The Perfect Solution

To put the concept of fog computing into perspective, this technology is capable of shifting the cloud computing paradigm into a higher gear. Fog computing does not rely on process tasks by using the cloud, but instead uses all devices in our direct environment. Computers, smart phones, coffee makers, traffic lights, and gaming consoles all contain hardware powerful enough to perform any task they are given. It is time to harness all of that available computing power and put it to good use.

This is of particular significance when it comes to processing data and running powerful applications. By using devices adds to the network edge compared to a centralized cloud, while more data can also be processed locally. A combination of local smart devices can quickly outpace cloud computing at a more affordable rate. Moreover, it reduces the risk of sending data to an unknown company who may or may not store a copy of this data in the process.
