after Adriana Mather
Perhaps you kept me in the crystalline,
the memory of land a perfect sphere,
a comfort to the wanderers within
the mirror realms of memory and fear
who seek a hither shore, a simple light
unburdened by the indecisive hues
that come with the complexity, the fight
against the evils we cannot excuse
or will away with love. Will you return
and pare away the evil that holds fast
demonic airs that make the stomach churn
or hold us separate to the bitter last?
I loved you in in the idyll. Then the grief
disfigured you past childish belief.
