For My Husband’s Birthday
a sonnet of love and gratitude
If you had never been, my Final Love,
What darkened caves must I have wandered in?
What chaos of the mind and heart alone
Would I have spent my only lifetime in?
When two such wanderers as you and I
Have finally met and recognized the grace
That offers love requited and a life
Of seeing beauty in the other’s face,
Then peaceful love, persistent happiness
