A Sonnet

Comparing you to the finest sweet wine
in Medieval times, you would make me hot
drinking you in as if feasting like swine
I can’t get enough — I ache at the thought.

Your muted tones dance upon my tongue like
a celebration, but only we are
acquainted with when this journey might strike —
Plum hues turn to gold when nearest a star.

I have fallen for this wine and this night
knowing not where it came from — I don’t care.
I will risk the heat if you hold me tight,
wrap me in your embrace — I want you here.

Come to me, I’ll imbibe you in my dreams
Love isn’t always as sweet as it seems.

Author’s notes: In Medieval times, sweet wine was reserved for fancy, celebratory occasions, and only consumed in small quantities. Wine was typically associated with health. Drinking larger quantities of sweet wine would make people hot — too hot — risking their physical and moral health. (Source)

Sweet wine is the only wine this Author will drink in large quantities — take of that what you will.
