What we’re looking for.
Sonnets, pure and simple.
All kinds of poetry are amazing, but this publication is dedicated to the art of the sonnet. Generally speaking, a sonnet is
- Fourteen lines long.
- Written in a standard poetic meter.
- Using some kind of organized rhyme scheme.
There is a lot of variability within the form, and all of the variations are welcome here — We’ll take your Shakespearean sonnets, your Cyhydded Fer sonnets, your Terza Rima sonnets, your Petrarchan sonnets, and even your Lannets — and everything in between. Sonnet crowns and cycles are also welcome.
Guidelines.
Ideally, we are looking for newly-submitted Medium posts. Because publications show work based on date of publication, an old post newly added to a publication will disappear into the backlog.
You are welcome to submit work that has been previously published in magazines and journals, if you currently have the rights to do so. This publication does not assume your rights, nor hold any claim to your work. You are free to keep your work here or remove it as you will. Your work remains your own.
Formatting.
Please use single-spaced lines. This is achieved by using SHIFT+ENTER instead of ENTER at the end of each line. For a stanza break, use the traditional ENTER.
Please use regular or italic type — do not write your entire poem in the editor using the header, sub-header, or quote tools. This makes it more difficult to read your poem in a mobile setting. A standard quote / epigraph may, of course, be set off as a quote.
Please ensure that you use a correctly-cited image. Credits such as “From Google” or “From Pintrest” aren’t going to cut it. Medium has a built-in tool that makes finding free-to-use stock photos very simple.
The editors reserve the right to correct formatting as necessary.
