Urbex-scape Ep. 4: Capital Fortification

Here is our visit about one of the forts that were part of Bucharest’s fortification system. Initially, there were 18 forts and 18 batteries, localized around the capital city, in a circle formation, with the diameter of approximately 23 km. General Henri Alexis Brialmont has developed the structure for this defense system and designed these forts and batteries. The first one I got the chance to see on this late September day was actually Fort no. 1, Chitila.

The entrance still holds its imposing stature and the sign helps us make acquaintance with the fort. Before winter time, entering the fort might be a bit of a balancing game, as the way inside is marked by a muddy path, with a brick trail. Watch your step! We plan to see all of them. The thing is, there might be surprises on the way. Hopefully, we can achieve as much as we can during our future trips.
