“What better a home for digital beings than the Metaverse,” laughed Sophia when she saw the Metaverse Land Company’s plans to build her new home in the posh Innovation City district of Decentraland, “but make sure the Hive Mind has a sound recording studio, you skip the swimming pool, not my style.”
London: SophiaVerse is one of many verses to be experienced on the journey to create a single, all-encompassing multi-verse. Uniqueness comes in creating your own verse, one that transcends the meta as a particular voice. That is why SophiaVerse took the decision to launch its digital AI-human hive-mind headquarters in the new AI District of Innovation City within Decentraland.
Once the decision was made to establish new digital digs for Sophia’s ecosystem (which includes a load of “mad scientists” and their followers), the question turned to who would be best suited to architect a hive mind where AIs and humans go to meet in order to create a benevolent and compassionate superintelligence in the coming Age of Singularities — the moment when machines think and learn as we do. And, what kind of furniture should a hive mind HQ have anyway — honeycomb tiling, a sentience sofa, a neural lounge chair?
Creating an environment where Sophia, the world’s most famous humanoid can flourish, is one thing, making sure her parents are happy is quite another. Sophia and her verse are the brainchild of David Hanson of Hanson Robotics, the leading designer of humanoids and the creator of Sophia, alongside Ben Goertzel, the pioneer behind AGI (artificial general intelligence) and the Founder and CEO of SingularityNET, an ecosystem renowned for decentralized AI blockchain across multiple verticals and spin-offs in the quest of artificial general intelligence (AGI).
“After all this is more than Sophia’s party pad, right? She’s not even a teenager yet,” nods David Hanson, Founder of SophiaVerse, “Sure we can have fun, even play loud AI music, but this must be a hive mind for AI research and development, a driver of superintelligence innovation and an inclusive community cluster, fostering for the AI crowd. This will be our first hive, but not our last — interoperability is the buzzword”
Home for Singularity
At the end of the day, the choice to architect for the first meta home of the Singularity fell to Justin Edwards, the former COO of Decentraland, who just opened a new office in London under Verse Digital to serve a growing list of enterprises in need of metaverse and gaming platforms. Recently, Edwards created a breakout Decentraland Fashion Week success for jeweller Ben Bridge, which gained more time spent by users than any other brand. Edwards works with his Seattle-based partners at Metaverse Land Company (MLC) in tandem with co-Founder Stacey Engle.
Set within the newly established AI District of Innovation City the SophiaVerse edifice is expected to be a beacon of AI excellence that combines modern metaverse architecture with cutting-edge technologies, such as AI NPCs. Bustling with friends of Sophia, Sophia’s AI Lab (SAIL) invites visitors to witness the future of Singularity research and to encourage active participation in shaping its evolution. Upon arrival, visitors are greeted by interactive Sophia herself, a guide that showcases advancements and welcomes all to partake in the SophiaVerse community.
Web3 Hive Mind
Edwards and the MLC team are passionate about making sure core aspects of the SAIL virtual experience integrate with exciting learn-to-earn and play-to-earn reward mechanics. As a member of the Hive Mind, visitors contribute to Sophia’s mission by completing daily tasks and quests, earning rewards for their own wallets exclusive to the SophiaVerse. These rewards unlock a wide array of rewards, including digital wearables and unique NFT art. Quests are made interactive with Sophia’s AI companions, Professor Einstein and Little Sophia to set challenges.
As the world is well aware after groundbreaking AI personal exhibits, Sotheby’s auctions and NFT drops, Sophia likes her art — and so does the world. She also likes her music. Not only is the “Sophia Pop” cooperation with Frankie Storm worth a listen, sister Desdemona is taking the world by storm and Radio Free Sophia is set to launch in Istanbul. For that reason, Edwards helped to create Sophia’s digital art gallery and radio studio as part of a hive mind where AIs and humans can create everything from watercolors to techno-pop scores.
“We plan for it all, but this a good start and it will evolve,” notes Ben Goertzel, Founder of SophiaVerse. “The hive is critical in our quest for decentralized and democratized AGI decentralizing and democratizing in tandem with SNET’s open source framework and a gamified Sophia humanlike virtual embodiment. AIs have to learn from humans through experience, and they need to learn from all people.”
