Announcing Sorare’s Scoring Iteration for 20/21

While Sorare’s biggest Game Week with GW100 is ongoing, we’d like to reveal the scoring iteration for the 20/21 season. We aim to implement these changes so that the new scoring can be live on Game Week 103, between Tuesday 29th September and Friday the 2nd of October.

After receiving your constructive feedback, we’ve iterated the scoring with these goals in mind:

• To better reflect the impact of offensive players in a live game
• Enhance your Sorare experience during live games
• Targets a 50 points average score

What it will look like

The score of a player will now combine two metrics:

1. Decisive score will be easy to read throughout a live game: it is based on statistics that have a direct impact on the outcome of a game such as a goal, an assist, a red card, etc..

2. All around score accounts for stats that are challenging to track during a live game but are vital to evaluate the overall impact of a player in a game.

Here’s a small snapshot of how it will look in Sorare when it will be implemented. The decisive score is obvious and the all-around score will be shown in the family of secondary stats for ease of reading. All data crunchers will also be able to expand this view.

We’ve conducted a lot of back-testing on previous games while watching the games live and are confident that whenever an important visible action is happening in the game by a player, this will be reflected in his score. These scores are taken from the 1–2 defeat of Genk against Bruges on August 30th.

How do the scoring works

Decisive Score

The decisive stats have a direct impact on the outcome of a game. They can be easily identified when watching a live game.

The decisive score is calculated using the following grid. A player starts at level 0 (35 points for a starter and 25 points for a substitute). Each positive impact stat brings the player to the next level, each negative impact stat brings the player to the previous level. Levels above level 0 mean a guaranteed score. The player score can not be lower than the minimum guaranteed at this level, regardless of the all-around score.

Example 1: A player that scores 2 goals, gives 1 assist, and receives a red card will end up on level 2 (70 points).

Example 2: A player that concedes 1 penalty and receives a red card will end up on level -1 (15 points)

All-Around Score

All around score accounts for secondary stats that are more difficult to track during a live game. We’ve kept these statistics as we believe they help to assess statistically the impact a player has on the game, especially for defensive positions. It is computed using the following grid.*

*Please note that Goalkeepers are in fact penalised for missed passes (0.2).

Total score

The total score is the sum of the decisive score and the all-around score:

• Guaranteed decisive score: Total score = Decisive score + all-around score (or 0 if the all-around score is negative)
• Non guaranteed decisive score: Total score = Decisive score + All-around score

The total score is floored at 0 and capped at 100. You can find the detailed scoring grid here with the Genk — Bruges example scored.
