Hindi Kavita (Poem)
एक घनेरी रात आई
संग बूंदों को लिए
खज़ाना खोजते फिरते थे जो हम बचपन में
मिटटी के खेल में
आज उसी मिट्ठी की खुशबू से वो बात याद आ गई
एक दफा कंचे जमा करते करते जो बॉक्स मिला था
हमने आज भी बड़ा सँभाल के रखा है उसे
यहीं बरांडे वाली अलमारी की निचले खाने में देखना,
मिल जाएगा
इतने बरस बीत गए
सो थोड़ी मैल जम गई होगी
लेकिन आज भी उतना ही प्यारा है, जैसे उस रोज़ था
एक काली अँधेरी रात भर रखी है उसमे
जो आपने हमें दी थी
बड़ी देर लगी ये समझने में
की वो अँधेरा भी एक तोहफा था |
English transliteration:
ek ghaneri raat aai
sang bundon ko liye
khazaana khojte phirte the jo hum bachpan main
mitti ke khel main
aj usi mitti ki khushboo se wo baat yaad aa gai.
ek dafa kanche jamaa karte karte jo baks mila tha
humne aj bhi bada sambhal ke rakha hai use
yahin baraande wali almari ki nichle khaane main dekhna,
mil jaega.
itne baras beet gae
so thodi mael jam gai hogi
lekin aj bhi utna hi pyaara hai, jaise us roz tha.
ek kaali andheri raat bhar rakhi hai usme
jo aapne humein di thi
badi der lagi ye samajhne main
ki woh andhera bhi ek tohfa tha.
English translation :
Darkness engulfs the night,
Along with raindrops
The treasure we once searched for in childhood
Digging the earth,
Today, the scent of that soil brings back those memories.
Once, while collecting glass marbles, we found a box,
I have kept it safely,
In the bottom drawer of the cupboard in the veranda—
If you look, you’ll find it.
So many years have passed,
It may be dusty,
But even today, it’s as lovely as it was then.
Inside it rests that pitch-dark night,
Which you had given me.
It took a long time to understand,
That darkness was also a gift.
