Hand-painted story of Plastic Pollution and Canva Design: Nefelibata.in by Monoreena

“Only we humans make waste that nature can’t digest.” — Captain Charles J Moore oceanographer, who first brought the world’s attention to the Great Garbage Patch.

Dressed in petroleum and Innocence
That villain sans dialogue stole the script
Easy to fall for its flimsy pretence
Used and thrown chkk chkk a packet of chips
Dare land the Mars, alarm silently shrieks
Mast to toxin-ship, human ignorant
Forums echo banal benevolent
Let the sea rise in protest, we be banned
Turtles ready shoes for heir apparent
‘Save us’ chorus on flip-flops left on sand

World Environment Day
5th June,2023

[Dizain: Is a French poetic form constructed with ten lines each with ten syllables written in iambic pentameter and an ababbccdcd rhyme scheme.]

My Corner: Though it’s late, it is never late to talk about pollution.

Plastic is by far the most effective of modern day innovations.
From stacking some items ensuring longevity to sending spacecraft to neighbouring satellites, plastic is unavoidable.
But its presence in its innocent form has been sullied greatly by ignorant us, turning it into a rapscallion, to our own peril.
This poem aims at taking the handle away from human control and giving it back to nature and its elements, where it should belong.
They will do a better job than we did thus far.
The situation has been rightly summarised by one of first female oceanographers on plastic pollution Sylvia Earle ,“It is the worst of times but it is the best of times because we still have a chance.”

This is in response to Paper Poetry June Prompt floated by Indubala Kachhawa for this Environment day :Get-your-shoes-on

Carolyn Hastings Suntonu Bhadra and Paper Poetry
I decided to dwell on plastic this year, as the theme being #Beatplasticpollution.

Thank you William J Spirdione for the timely reminder :))

Thalia Dunn slipped on her writing shoes to join the challenge, which was an enjoyable read
