“To like many people spontaneously and without effort is perhaps the greatest of all sources of personal happiness.” ― Bertrand Russell

I have no time for that
All-consuming,
Yet it’s all consumed —
Mind, heart and soul,

The kind of peace we all
strive for,
But wonder how is it better
than being dead….
Floating on a sea with no
ripples,
Wind takes away the y
from the salt,
Moisture from the air sucked
up by the sea —

Still that moment arrives,
Presides over you,
Flare nights, energy-sapped mornings
notwithstanding,
Sweeps you off your feet,
Perception veiled,
Fortunate…
Blessed…
Inflamed lips widen to
birth a smile,

You toss your thoughts up
in the vacuum to land
safe in the universal bowl,
As you learn to trust the ways
Thrust upon you,
That you never asked for,
But sits on you like fish in water….

A river flows beneath the still waters,
Planktons swaying, breathing free,
Shoal of fish busy wading,
chattering, quarrelling,
It’s allowed in their world….

But
You seek time, gather words,
Trying to find a way out of it
without sounding naive,
Waiting for all the senses
to wake up in some
non-quarrelsome way,

No, it’s not fear, it’s conditioning,
Planet’s eyes all glued,
Or maybe, waiting for the skill
to arrive to cut into the immediate…
Make it a little more articulate,
Indulge in poet-like conversations…

Though it’s common knowledge
the world adores spontaneity
which creates moments
for keepsake —

Wonder if there are poets in
the worlds of fish!

“I mean, how do you know what you’re going to do till you do it? The answer is, you don’t. I think I am, but how do I know? ” ― J.D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye
